Summer is just around the corner! It is time to start thinking about having your pet vaccinated against rattlesnakes. The rattlesnake vaccine has worked great in our area. While it doesn't completely eliminate the need for veterinary care in the case of a snake bite, the care needed will be significantly minimized. Vaccinated animals rarely need hospitalized and almost never need anti-venom (which is the expensive part of treatment). If your dog or cat has been previously vaccinated and is up to date, just don't forget to get the annual booster. If your dog or cat would be starting the series, it requires additional vaccinations the first year. Please call us for details, with questions, or to make an appointment!
It's time to start thinking about calving again. We all love when calving goes smoothly and the calves remain healthy. Don't forget that we may be able to help you achieve that with some scour prevention measures. There are several products available to help prevent scouring calves. These include Guardian, Scour Bos, Scour Guard and Calf Guard. In this area, we have seen the best results with Guardian. It has to be given to pregnant cows 3 months prior to calving, with a booster given 3-6 weeks later. There are different time tables for each of these products. We'd be happy to discuss options with you, if you'd like. It's our goal to help you keep your herd healthy.
